7-day Tanzania safari of wildlife and culture
Overview
A 7-day safari starting in Arusha, Tanzania, featuring Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and the option to visit the Hadzabe tribe in Lake Eyasi. See the big five, witness the wildebeest migration, visit traditional Maasai villages, and experience the unique wildlife, landscapes, and cultures of Tanzania.
DAY 1: Into Tanzania.
Day 1 of your trip to Tanzania begins with your arrival at one of the Tanzanian airport. After clearing customs and immigration, you will be greeted by a representative from your tour company who will assist you with transportation to your hotel. You’ll have the rest of the day to relax and acclimate to the time change before your adventure begins.
DAY 2: Lake Manayara exploration.
Visit Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive. Depart hotel at 8am and journey across Great Rift Valley to the park known for its lush acacia forest, baboons, blue monkeys, giraffes, elephants, impalas, buffaloes, hippos, tree-climbing lions, flamingos, and unique bird species. Enjoy stunning photo opportunities and optional bike or boat tours. Return to camp for dinner.
DAY 3:Serengeti National Park
Enjoy a scenic drive to the famous Serengeti National Park known for its endless plains and diverse wildlife, including the Great Migration and various big cats and predators. Stop at Ngorongoro Crater for a panoramic view and visit Olduvai Gorge, where the remains of early humans were discovered. The tour includes a lecture on the gorge’s archaeology and geology, and a visit to the Leakey’s museum.
DAY 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Experience one of the most breathtaking sunrises on an early morning game drive in the Serengeti. Afterwards, enjoy a satisfying brunch before heading to Ngorongoro, the 8th wonder of the natural world. Spanning 102 sq. miles with 2,000 ft. high walls, the crater is home to nearly every indigenous species of East African wildlife, including the elusive black rhino. The crater boasts a diverse landscape of rivers, swamps, a flamingo-filled soda lake, a forest, and open plains. The elephants here are also notable for their large tusks, a result of the mineral-rich volcanic soil and grasses. Enjoy a sundowner upon arrival to fully take in the beauty of Ngorongoro Crater.
DAY 5: Ngorongoro Crater
Begin the day with an early start as we journey into the depths of the Ngorongoro Crater for an unforgettable morning of wildlife viewing in one of the most captivating places on Earth. Following the game drive, enjoy a picnic lunch near the picturesque Hippo Lake. After lunch, take a short game drive before ascending the crater and leaving the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Arusha. Expect to return to Arusha by 5pm, but we are able to adjust the schedule if there is a flight to catch or other circumstances.
DAY 6: Visit the Hadzabe tribe in Lake Eyasi
Start the day with an early morning drive from Ngorongoro to Lake Eyasi, where you will have the opportunity to visit one of the last true nomadic tribes in Africa. The Hadzabe tribe is known for their traditional hunting and gathering lifestyle. Upon arrival to the tribe, you will join the members of the village in their local morning activities, such as hunting, preparing food and learning about their traditional way of life. This is a truly fascinating experience as you will get an insight into the culture and lifestyle of this unique tribe. You will also have the opportunity to witness and participate in traditional dances and ceremonies. This experience provides fantastic photo opportunities and a chance to learn about the tribe’s customs, culture, and history. After the visit, you will have the lunch and drive back to Arusha or the next destination.
DAY 7: Departure
This is the final day of your safari, after breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport in Arusha or your next destination for your flight back home. You will have time to reflect on the memories and experiences you’ve gained during your journey and the amazing wildlife, landscapes and cultures you’ve encountered. You may also have the time to do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs or gifts. You will be assisted by your guide and driver for any final needs or questions before your departure.
