7-Day Zanzibar Cultural and Nature Adventure Tour
Overview
This trip to Zanzibar includes a visit to Stone Town, a walking tour of the town’s culture and architecture. It also includes a visit to Prison Island to see the giant tortoises, a spice farm tour, and a full-day Safari Blue Tour, where you will enjoy swimming, snorkeling, seafood, lunch and soft drinks. The trip also includes a visit to the villages of Nungwi, Mchangani and Koani to learn about their culture and traditional art, and a Jozani Forest Tour and Kizimkazi Dolphin Tour. Finally, the trip ends with a transfer from the Zanzibar Queen Hotel to the harbour/airport for departure.
Day 1: Arrival in Zanzibar.
On the first day, arrive at Zanzibar airport or harbor and transfer to the Forodhani Park Hotel located in Stone Town. Check in for one night with accommodations on a half board basis.
Day 2: Walking tour and Prison Island
Start with a Stone Town Walking Tour after breakfast to discover the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Zanzibar, including stops at former slave market turned Anglican church, town market, memorial museum, House of Wonder, Arab Fort, Palace Museum, and the Old Indian Dispensary. After the tour, visit Prison Island to see giant tortoises, then return to hotel.
Day 3: Matemwe Beach, Spice tour
After breakfast, check out and travel to Matemwe Beach. En route, take a 3-hr Spice Tour to learn about the tropical fruits, spices, and herbs that have earned Zanzibar the nickname “Spice Island.” Your guide will explain the uses of spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, curry, pepper, tamarind, ginger, menthol, and more, brought by the sultans of Oman. After the tour, continue to Zanzibar Queen Hotel on the north-east coast.
Day 4: Safari Blue tour
Embark on a full-day Safari Blue Tour that starts a few minutes away from your morning breakfast.. This tour is highly recommended and will create lasting memories. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling, seafood, lunch and soft drinks while sailing on a traditional dhow. After a short break on a sandy beach, have lunch on the unique and beautiful Kwale Island, located a few kilometers off the coast of Zanzibar. It’s famous for its sea picnic experience. Later return to the hotel for dinner and relaxation in preparation for the next day.
Day 5: Village and community tours
Start this bright day with a Village Tour starting with a visit to Nungwi village to learn about traditional dhow-making and explore the aquarium. You will also visit the village school. Next, proceed to Mchangani village, located in the center of the island, about 30 minutes drive from the Zanzibar Queen Hotel. Here, you will have the opportunity to interact with locals, learn about their culture and try traditional foods and tropical fruits. Also, visit the Mchangani village school. Lastly, visit Koani village to see door makers and observe ancient carving designs and then return to the hotel.
Day 6: Jozan forest
Take a Jozani Forest Tour and a Kizimkazi Dolphin Tour. The Jozani Forest Reserve is a guided tour that is best combined with a dolphin tour. The forest has been declared a Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park and is home to the rare Red Colobus Monkeys, found nowhere else in the world. The guided tour is a maximum of three hours and visitors can choose to visit one or all of the attractions.
Day 7:The journey ends.
On the last day of your trip in Zanzibar, you will be picked up from the Zanzibar Queen Hotel and taken to the harbor/airport by a transportation service. The driver will help you with your luggage and make sure you arrive at the airport/harbor on time for your flight/ferry. You will have some time to relax and reminisce about your experiences in Zanzibar. The driver will drop you off at the departure terminal, where you can check-in for your flight/ferry and start your journey back home.
