Overview
A 5-day primate safari in Rwanda is an adventure to remember! As one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, Rwanda is home to several primate species, including the renowned mountain gorilla. You can explore Volcanoes National Park, home to some of the world’s most endangered mountain gorillas. During this exciting safari, you will also enjoy a range of other activities, such as cultural tours, hikes, and visiting local communities. From lush rainforests to vibrant cities, Rwanda offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda.
Head to the luxurious Serena Hotel with executive lounge, bar, refurbished pool, restaurant, and café. Check into your room and enjoy the spacious, comfortable surroundings. Spend the day leisurely at the hotel.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour.
Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and Gardens, followed by a lunch break and a visit to the Rwanda Arts Museum. Then, drive to the Virunga National Park and overnight at a lodge near the spectacular Virunga Volcanoes.
Day 3: Mountain Hiking and Gorilla Trekking.
Start with an early breakfast and embark on a full-day excursion to find the mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. Track the gorillas through the rainforest and spend an hour observing their daily activities in their natural habitat. Have lunch at a local restaurant, return to the lodge for leisure and overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking and Dian Fossey Grave Visit.
After breakfast, search for endangered golden monkeys to learn about their behavior and lifestyle. Visit the grave of Dian Fossey, a famous American primatologist who studied mountain gorillas in Rwanda from 1966 until her death in 1985. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Interaction and Departure.
After a leisurely breakfast, participate in a nature walk and visit local Bahutu and Batutsi communities to learn about their culture, customs, and hospitality. Have lunch with the locals and interact with them. Return to Kigali city for a final town tour, and then depart for your home country.
DAY 6: LAKE KIVU AND DEPARTURE.
As soon as you arrive on Lake Kivu, engage in a boat cruise on the this famous lake and tour the islands of Kibuye and Gisenyi. Feast your eyes on the different sceneries and the different aquatic animals in the lake as you listen to the sweet melodies made by the surrounding birds.
Later, set your compass home, and embark on the leisurely drive back to the agreed dropoff point.
