Day 1: Arrival and Warm Welcome to Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be met by our driver/ guide and transferred to your hotel. After a smooth check-in process, you’ll have time to freshen up and unwind in your comfortable room. The evening is yours to relax and enjoy the hotel’s amenities, or take a stroll around the nearby surroundings. Optional, visit Kagulu food company in Entebbe town to tasty organically grown and roasted Arabic coffee and foods.

A delicious dinner will be served at the hotel’s restaurant, featuring a mix of local and international cuisine. The rest of the evening is at your disposal, to rest and prepare for the exciting birding adventures that await.

Day 2: Birding Paradise – Mabamba Swamp and Botanical Gardens

Today, embark on a thrilling birding adventure to two of Uganda’s most renowned destinations. First, visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, a haven for exotic and local bird species, with over 300 species recorded. This beautiful garden is a must-visit for any bird enthusiast or nature lover. Take a stroll through the gardens, spotting an array of birdlife, including some rare and endangered species. Spot the open country, water, and forest bird species like the yellow-white eye, banded sunbird, African jacana, glossy ibis, etc

Next, head to Mabamba Swamp, a significant birding hotspot located 50 kilometers west of Kampala. This is home to a diverse range of bird species, including the elusive Shoebill Stork and the African Fish Eagle. Take a guided boat tour through the swamp, getting up close and personal with the region’s incredible avifauna. Mabamba is also famously known for good birdlife- photography.

After a fulfilling day of birding, return to your lodge to relax. Unwind and prepare to explore more of Uganda’s natural wonders in the days to come.

Day 3: Journey to Murchison Falls National Park – A Birding Haven

Following a leisurely morning, our avian adventure continues as we travel to Murchison Falls National Park. Renowned for its diverse ecosystem and staggering 360 bird species, excitement awaits. The roar of the Nile River culminates in the breathtaking spectacle of Murchison Falls. Keep your eyes peeled for the majestic Goliath Heron, and the Abyssinian Ground Hornbill. Fortunately, you can spot the elusive Shoebill – a rare and coveted sighting.

As we delve every moment presents an opportunity to encounter Uganda’s avian treasures in their pristine habitat. With the park’s lush vegetation, sprawling wetlands, and sparkling waterfalls, the possibilities for exciting bird sightings are endless. Day 4: Murchison Falls Wildlife Encounters and Aquatic Adventures

After breakfast, our adventure continues with a wildlife game drive across the undulating plains. Murchison Falls morning game drive promising sightings of diverse animal species, including majestic giraffes, regal lions, and imposing buffalo herds. Also, enjoy the top of the falls hike, as this is an experience that is not to be missed by any traveler to Uganda. Witness the mightiness of Mother Nature as huge sums of water squeeze through narrow tunnels against the hard bounding rocks into a plunge pool below.

As we explore the landscape, we may spot playful primates, graceful giraffes, and agile antelopes, each species showcasing its unique characteristics and behaviors. The game drive in Murchison Falls National Park is a rewarding experience. You will have the chance to get a glimpse of the African Big Five game, including the lions, elephants, and lone buffaloes, and find the rhinos in the ziwa rhino sanctuary.

Following a satisfying lunch, the journey takes us on an afternoon excursion, embarking on an exclusive launch cruise along the scenic Nile riverbanks, offering breathtaking views, exciting bird species, and wildlife encounters. Drifting along serene waters, we anticipate sightings of the river’s denizens, including formidable Nile crocodiles, lumbering hippos, and graceful fish eagles, each species adding a splash of color and melody to our memorable cruise.

Day 5: Birding in Budongo Forest’s Royal Mile and Busingiro Sections

We embark on a thrilling adventure, delving into the heart of Budongo Forest’s renowned Royal Mile, a premier birding destination in Uganda. This expansive forestry trail promises an unforgettable day of avian encounters, with a diverse array of species to spot. From the elusive Nahan’s Francolin to the agile Cassin’s Spinetail and the enchanting Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, each bird poses a delightful challenge for birding enthusiasts.

As we navigate the forest’s labyrinthine trails, we encounter a myriad of forest-dwelling birds, each with its unique characteristics. Day 6: Journey to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Budongo Forest and embark on a scenic drive to Kibale National Park, renowned for its lush rainforest and diverse primate species. The journey takes us through picturesque landscapes and charming villages, offering a glimpse into rural Ugandan life.

Arriving at Fort Portal in the late afternoon, we check into our lodge and unwind after the day’s drive. You can take the evening to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Alternatively, activities like nature walks and cultural encounters are available for those seeking to explore further.

As the sun sets over undulating hills, take a moment to appreciate the tranquility of our surroundings. Take the evening to prep for adventures that await in Kibale National Park and eagerly anticipate what tomorrow will bring.

Day 7: Chimpanzee Tracking

Following a hearty breakfast, our day begins with a visit to the visitor center of Kibale National Park. You will receive a comprehensive briefing for the much-anticipated chimp trekking adventure. The duration of this exhilarating activity may vary depending on the whereabouts of the chimpanzee troops. However, when encountering these primates, we are privileged to spend an hour observing their fascinating behaviors in their natural habitat.

As the day progresses, we may find ourselves yearning for further exploration and immersion in the natural wonders of Kibale. In the late afternoon, we can indulge our passion for birding along the main road leading towards the captivating Bigodi Wetland. This area is an exceptional birding destination, boasting a rich diversity of riverine forest birds. The possibility of encountering these avian delights may be influenced by the prevailing weather conditions. Day 8: A game drive and an afternoon boat cruise of Queen Elizabeth

You will join Queen Elizabeth National Park in the morning. Since it is a short distance from Kibale, embark on a game drive for iconic African wildlife encounters. Enjoy sightings of diverse wildlife species such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, and warthogs. As the sun rises, you will witness the savannah come alive with the sights and sounds of the wild creating unforgettable moments of wildlife viewing.

After lunch, we delve into a unique and thrilling experience with a launch voyage on the legendary Kazinga Channel. Regarded as one of Uganda’s most captivating water sports, this cruise promises an adventure like no other. The Kazinga Channel, linking Lakes George and Edward, offers a picturesque setting for birding enthusiasts and wildlife aficionados alike. As we glide along its tranquil waters, we are treated to an array of water birds, from elegant pelicans and vibrant kingfishers. Travel to Bwindi late evening

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

We begin the day with an early breakfast, preparing for the unforgettable experience of gorilla trekking. We’ll be taken to the starting point, where we’ll join a specialized guide and a small group to venture into the forest. Reaching Bwindi impenetrable national park, spend a precious hour observing these incredible creatures up close.

A trek through the dense forest with the guides offers valuable insights into the behavior, habitat, and conservation of these endangered animals. We’ll have the privilege of witnessing the daily lives of the gorillas. From foraging to socializing, and perhaps even spotting some playful juvenile gorillas, is the experience that climaxes all African adventure journeys. This intimate encounter will leave us in awe of these gentle giants and the importance of protecting their habitat.

If time permits in the afternoon, we’ll explore the Buhoma area for some exciting birding opportunities. Our target species include the elusive Short-tailed Warbler, Willard’s Sooty Boubou, Oriole-Finch, Chapin’s Flycatcher, and the stunning Bar-tailed Trogon. With our expert guide, we’ll navigate the forest trails, spotting these avian treasures and adding to our Uganda birding checklist.

Day 10: Journey to Lake Bunyonyi

We depart early in the morning for Lake Bunyonyi, a breathtaking destination renowned for its serene beauty. As we arrive, we’re greeted by the tranquil atmosphere of the surroundings, setting the tone for a relaxing day. We’ll check into our chosen accommodation, whether it’s a lakeside lodge or a cozy guesthouse nestled in the hills, offering stunning views of the lake.

Late afternoon brings birding choices: explore the lakeshore or relax at the lodge. Either way, a variety of birds and animals await – watch them drink and bathe by the lake. Binoculars in hand, we’ll identify colorful birds, adding them to our Ugandan birding list. As the day fades, savor a delicious local dinner back at the lodge.

As night falls, we’ll take a moment to unwind and relax, perhaps by a bonfire under the starry sky. You’ll reflect on the day’s adventures as you anticipate the next day’s birding excursions, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Lake Bunyonyi. With full hearts and minds, we’ll drift off to sleep, ready to embrace another day in this avian paradise.

Day 11: Bunyonyi Bird Expedition

Sunrise paints Lake Bunyonyi in stunning hues, kicking off our birding adventure. Binoculars gripped, we explore diverse areas – forests and wetlands – seeking hidden birds. Expert guides help us spot fascinating species: Yellow-backed Weavers, Grey Crowned Cranes, Black-headed Weavers, and many more!

As we explore, we’ll pause for a picnic lunch at a scenic spot overlooking the lake, taking in the stunning views and sounds of the ecosystem. Alternatively, we may return to our accommodation for a hearty meal, refueling for the afternoon’s adventures. With the help of our knowledgeable guides, you will continue the birding expedition, focusing on any specific species or habitats you may have missed earlier in the day.

As the sun dips low, our day of birding draws to a close. We return to our comfortable lakeside accommodation, ready for relaxation. Surrounded by the tranquil beauty of Lake Bunyonyi, we unwind and savor the memories. Perhaps you’ll share stories with fellow adventurers, recounting your favorite sightings. Our journey takes us back to Kampala, and departs for our onward flights, carrying with us the unforgettable experiences of our Ugandan adventure. As we reflect on the warmth and wonder of this incredible country, you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for your outbound flight.
